In the heart of Brazil's Amazon rainforest, a nun called Dorothy Stang, made the protection of the poor and respect for creation her life's struggle. She died on 12 February 2005 at the age of 73, murdered by hired killers contracted by large landowners whose abuses she denounced. Her life continues to bear fruit today, inspiring many local initiatives for the protection of biodiversity when farming the land. Hers is an authentic witness to the commitment to 'integral ecology' advocated by Pope Francis in the encyclical Laudato Si'.
